Hydrovolt partners with KABoB entering the Danish market for battery recycling

Hydrovolt has entered into partnership as treatment operator with KABoB, a producer responsibility organization in Denmark. Together the companies aim to offer leading collection, transport and recycling services for producers, importers and distributors placing industrial batteries and electric vehicle batteries on the market in Denmark.
Danish law requires companies placing batteries on the market to register and report the volumes they import, and to settle the associated producer responsibility fees. KABoB administers this registration, reporting and fee settlement on behalf of its members, alongside its collective scheme for vehicles imported into Denmark.
Through the new partnership, KABoB’s members and collection network gain access to Hydrovolt’s recycling capability – pairing regulatory compliance with proven, high-recovery treatment route for end-of-life batteries.
“We are proud of partnering up with Hydrovolt and bringing their competences and experience from the Norwegian market into Denmark. There are many similarities in the transformation of the carparks and therefore the tasks and challenges will be familiar to Hydrovolt, which will benefit the members of our organization, but actually the entire market” Claus Bjerring, CEO and founder of KABoB states.
Batteries collected by Hydrovolt will be recycled at the Nordic region’s largest recycling facility that Hydrovolt operates in Norway. The facility has a total recovery rate of 99 percent and material recovery rates above 85 percent. The company has been running the facility since 2022 with an annual capacity of 12,000 tonnes of battery packs, equal to 25,000 electric vehicle batteries.
“We are excited to collaborate with KABoB to offer our solutions and services to the Danish importer network. Our unique experience and market insight from Norway will be valuable to importers in need of efficient, sustainable, and competent battery recycling solutions within the Nordics,” says Hans Bjerkaas, Chief Commercial and Development Officer at Hydrovolt.
The partnership reflects the pace of electrification in Denmark, as the EV’s are approaching 25% share of the total carpark, and with electric vehicles accounting for +95% percent of all new private car sales this year. This indicates there will be an increasing number of end-of-life batteries in the years ahead, requiring a compliant, high-quality recycling route to ensure safe treatment of batteries, and sustainable recovery of the battery materials.
